Moving on…

Thursday, 06 October 2016

The following is a guest post by Alison Webster-Rudge, a mature postgraduate student who began her career at Leeds with the Lifelong Learning Centre. I left school with almost no qualifications. I wasn’t incapable, just bored and a bit lazy. There wasn’t any external motivation to succeed, no one seemed to care, so why should I? That was education in the early 1980s. It wasn’t long after I left school that I wanted to go back, realising the grass was much greener where I had been, not where I was heading. A few months working in a shoe shop on a...

An opportunity taken

Thursday, 29 September 2016

The following is a guest post by Joel Davison, a mature student who has just started his second year studying full-time on our BA Professional Studies programme. The Lifelong Learning Centre Opportunities Fund greatly helped me develop my skills over the summer. I applied to the fund for support with accommodation, which allowed me to remain in Leeds so that I could continue volunteering at The Vine Child Contact Centre. My LLC internship (part two)

Wednesday, 21 September 2016

The following blog post is from University of Leeds student Rachel Ireland. During my recent internship as Blended Learning Materials Evaluator at the Lifelong Learning Centre my main role was to evaluate resources that were being developed using a blended learning approach for students starting their Foundation Degree in Child and Family Studies this month. The main focus, when working through the resources, was to evaluate them from a student perspective including how, as a student, I felt I engaged with the resources and any potential improvements that I felt could be made. Due to the resources being...

My LLC internship (part one)

Friday, 09 September 2016

The following blog post is from University of Leeds student Rachel Hardy.  Just twelve short weeks ago I had never produced professional film footage, but since then I have had the opportunity to make over one hundred promotional videos all with thanks to my Summer Internship with the Lifelong Learning Centre. I am an English Literature student at the University of Leeds, who had been on the lookout for an opportunity to gain experience working in the television or film production industry. This proved quite difficult as the industry is very competitive and employers often required prior experience to gain...
