Moving on…

Thursday, 06 October 2016

The following is a guest post by Alison Webster-Rudge, a mature postgraduate student who began her career at Leeds with the Lifelong Learning Centre. I left school with almost no qualifications. I wasn’t incapable, just bored and a bit lazy. There wasn’t any external motivation to succeed, no one seemed to care, so why should I? That was education in the early 1980s. University of the Year

Friday, 23 September 2016

As of today we have become the Lifelong Learning Centre at the University of the Year and rightly proud of this recognition of what Leeds stands for and has achieved! The following is a guest post by Roland Maposa, a mature student who has just completed his first year studying full-time on our BA Professional Studies programme. I recently submitted a two-minute video application for the University’s new flagship initiative, the Leeds to New York Student Leadership Challenge. I was successful in my application and by the time you read this will have joined a diverse group of 16 students from across the University on a seven-day visit to New York. The programme is truly unique – it offers students the opportunity to learn leadership skills and apply...

A woman of achievement

Wednesday, 23 March 2016

We were delighted to hear that Emma McNamara, a mature student in the third year of her BA in Criminal Justice and Criminology degree at Leeds, is one of 16 members of staff or students the University has awarded the title of Woman of Achievement 2016. The annual Women of Achievement awards recognise the significant contribution and impact that women – both staff and students - have made across the University and beyond. Emma returned to study in 2011, initially enrolling on a GCSE Maths course at Deacon House, the Leeds City College community base in Seacroft,...
