Onwards and upwards

Wednesday, 05 April 2017

My name is Muhammad Saleem (above far left) and I am 46 years old. I am married, have three children and I am self-employed. I came from Pakistan, English is not my first language and without formal qualifications in UK it seemed impossible to fulfil my dream of studying at university. However, the part-time Certificate of Higher Education (Cert HE) in Arabic, Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies offered by the Lifelong Learning Centre was ideal for me in that I only had to attend the University for one day each week. The flexibility of the course suited me very well;...

Thursday, 26 January 2017

The following is a guest post by Roland Maposa, a mature student currently in his second year studying full-time on our BA Professional Studies programme.
Welcome!... three years is not a long time, before you know it, it will be over, so make the most of your time here…
These words from the LLC School Representative Khair Yacob recently struck me; a clarion call to a fully engaged and enjoyable student experience. During my recent internship as Blended Learning Materials Evaluator at the Lifelong Learning Centre my main role was to evaluate resources that were being developed using a blended learning approach for students starting their Foundation Degree in Child and Family Studies this month. The main focus, when working through the resources, was to evaluate them from a student perspective including how, as a student, I felt I engaged with the resources and any potential improvements that I felt could be made. Due to the resources being...

My LLC internship (part one)

Friday, 09 September 2016

The following blog post is from University of Leeds student Rachel Hardy.  Just twelve short weeks ago I had never produced professional film footage, but since then I have had the opportunity to make over one hundred promotional videos all with thanks to my Summer Internship with the Lifelong Learning Centre. I am an English Literature student at the University of Leeds, who had been on the lookout for an opportunity to gain experience working in the television or film production industry. This proved quite difficult as the industry is very competitive and employers often required prior experience to gain...
