Finished business

Wednesday, 06 September 2017

The following is a guest post by Simon West, a mature student who graduated from Leeds University Business School with a first class Honours degree in July 2017. When I was in my last year at Allerton High School, I thought that I had it all worked out. My mocks predicted that I would receive either A*, A's or B's for all eight GCSEs and be able to choose whichever route I wanted. Getting involved in a MOOC

Wednesday, 18 June 2014

Like many of our colleagues across the University, here at the Lifelong Learning Centre we are always looking at innovative ways to engage with learners. One area which I am currently involved in is a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). MOOCs offer any learner with internet access free online courses. This revealed how their current skills-set meets industry needs and also provides them with a foundation for personal development targets; some of which...

Pass the Russian doll to explain research methods

Friday, 25 October 2013

We often find at the Lifelong Learning Centre that our students can find academic concepts such as research methods daunting as they are not familiar with the terminology used. As these concepts can be confusing we are always looking for innovative ways to explain them. Our Business Management students on the Research Methods module recently participated in an interactive version of the Russian Doll Principle, developed by Clough and Nutbrown* to guide their thinking around research projects. This module gives students a taste of core components of the research project...
