Spring into Summer 2016

Tuesday, 17 May 2016

We’re pleased to announce that registrations are now open for our sixth annual Spring into Summer programme. This year we are offering a number of FREE events, as well as courses and workshops in the areas of creative writing, film, languages and literature. The programme will be delivered by staff from the Lifelong Learning Centre, elsewhere in the University and guest speakers from other universities. We are especially pleased to be offering a series of seminars on topical issues such as Brexit and the challenges of political leadership. Celebrating World Book Night 2016

Tuesday, 10 May 2016

To coincide with this year’s World Book Night the Lifelong Learning Centre recently threw a book party, in collaboration with the Leeds Centre for Canadian Studies and part-funded by the Canada-UK Foundation. Held at the Arch Café in the centre of Leeds, the event was a great success and was attended by over 20 people who were treated to a variety of activities. Friday, 02 October 2015

As part of the University’s commitment to making itself accessible to the local community, the LLC organises events and runs short courses throughout the year which have few (usually no) academic prerequisites and are affordable (and in many cases free). More seminars will follow throughout the year and the...

Working with the Communities and Partnerships team in identifying possible Widening Participation candidates for our PHE programme has become a more central part of my role. With this in mind I have started to locate and attend community groups, workshops and non-accredited courses across the Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield areas. I recently attended a PIP (Politics in the Pub) group held in the Bradford Brewery. This is a monthly meeting where members of the public, community activists, academics and other professionals meet in the format of the BBC’s Question Time programme to outline and debate current...

Celebrating Spring into Summer

Wednesday, 29 July 2015

The final class of Spring into Summer 2015 has now taken place and I wanted to take the self-indulgent opportunity to tell you about some the wonderful things which happened over the course of this year’s programme. Spring into Summer is the Lifelong Learning Centre’s annual programme of learning-for-pleasure courses and events. It invites adults from local communities onto the University campus to try something new, develop their creativity or to learn about something they never knew they had an interest in. This year we offered short courses in creative writing, current affairs, literature, language and culture as well as...
