Students in an Islamic Studies seminar
As part of the Lifelong Learning Centre’s commitment to providing educational opportunities for people in the local community we have since our inception delivered a range of short courses in the area of Arabic, Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies. Over the years we have earned a reputation for the high quality of our teaching on courses delivered in community settings and, more recently, on the University campus. In the academic year 2014-15 we have delivered four short courses in Arabic at three different levels - Beginners, Pre-Intermediate and Conversational. Opening up the campus

As part of the University’s commitment to making itself accessible to the local community, the Lifelong Learning Centre organises events and runs short courses throughout the year which have few (usually no) academic prerequisites and are affordable (and in many cases free). Our 2014/15 programme of public engagement activity is set to comprise three main strands. Things kicked off at the end of September with the launch of a ten-week, learning-for-pleasure course in Beginners Arabic on the University campus. Collaboration with the M&S archive

Here in the Lifelong Learning Centre, as in the wider University, we are keen to build relationships and work with other organisations. This is why it is so exciting to have the M&S archive on site. The archive wish to engage with all areas of the University, and the wider community, and have offered us some excellent opportunities to improve our student (or prospective student) experience.
