Meeting the Matrix standard

Thursday, 13 October 2016

I am delighted to announce that our free and impartial Pre-entry information, advice and guidance (IAG) service has once again been accredited as meeting the Matrix quality standard. Accreditation by Matrix is such good news as it’s a sign to people walking through our doors that the service they will receive from us will be objective, impartial and delivered to a high standard. Matrix accreditation is the industry standard for IAG and the assessment process looks in detail at what we offer. University of the Year

Friday, 23 September 2016

As of today we have become the Lifelong Learning Centre at the University of the Year and rightly proud of this recognition of what Leeds stands for and has achieved! It is not always the case that lifelong learning is aligned with the core values and mission of universities – in too many places it can feel a marginal activity or one that is somehow marching to the beat of a different drum from that of the rest of the institution. Parents’ Day

Friday, 05 August 2016

Monday 18 July saw the arrival of a group of 22 parents, grandparents, staff and students from Dixons McMillan Academy in Bradford for our inaugural Lifelong Learning Centre Parents’ Day. The group enjoyed a tour of some of the campus facilities, including lunch at The Refectory and a visit to the new Laidlaw Library; they were...

Thinking about university?

Thursday, 24 March 2016

At the Lifelong Learning Centre we appreciate that returning to study can be a daunting experience, especially if you have been away from education for a while. We are dedicated to ensuring that, from the point of your initial enquiry onwards, you have the opportunity to gain FREE and impartial information, advice and guidance from an experienced and understanding team of staff. Potential mature and/or part-time students can book a one-to-one appointment with one of our specialist university guidance officers, Mohammed Hussain and MJ Morgan, to discuss options for further study and routes to university. This discussion will...

Added value

Friday, 11 March 2016

The following blog post is a collaboration between two members of Lifelong Learning Centre staff, Jo Bates and Helen Bowman. LLC students on our Business Studies with Foundation Year programme recently benefited from visits from two external speakers. Kaye McDonald, Partner Co-ordination Manager at Waitrose in Harrogate taxed the students’ brains with an interactive session which required the students to match products to customer profiles in a recruitment task (and in fact tested their leadership qualities!). They were then asked to give their views on a real-life problem for Waitrose – how to rationalise the company’s legendary...
