Summer in China

Thursday, 10 August 2017

The following is a guest post by Roland Maposa, a mature student about to start his final year studying full-time on our BA Professional Studies programme. I would like to thank the LLC Opportunities Fund for enabling me to travel to the 2017 ‘Entrepreneurship in China’ International Summer School in Hangzhou. The summer school was attended by 37 students from 19 different universities, totalling 17 different nationalities. I felt supported by both staff from the Lifelong Learning Centre and the Leeds Study Abroad Office, especially when complications arose. The administrative team for the Summer School in China...

Throughout my time at Leeds I have not only enhanced my academic knowledge and...

An opportunity taken

Thursday, 29 September 2016

The following is a guest post by Joel Davison, a mature student who has just started his second year studying full-time on our BA Professional Studies programme. The Lifelong Learning Centre Opportunities Fund greatly helped me develop my skills over the summer. I applied to the fund for support with accommodation, which allowed me to remain in Leeds so that I could continue volunteering at The Vine Child Contact Centre. The Vine provides support for separated families where the non-resident parent is able to come and see their child or children in a safe, calm environment. Over the summer...

Leeds to New York Student Leadership Programme: Reflections

Monday, 25 July 2016

The following is part two of a guest post by Roland Maposa, a mature student who has just completed his first year studying full-time on our BA Professional Studies programme. Click here to read part one, 'Leeds to New York'. What makes a city Smart? Leeds has a history as an innovative and outward-looking city. For example, it has produced the likes of John Marshall (the first elevator), Louis Le Prince (who shot the world's first motion film in 1888, showing Leeds bridge) Joseph Priestley and the
