Recognising soft skills

Thursday, 26 January 2017

The following is a guest post by Roland Maposa, a mature student currently in his second year studying full-time on our BA Professional Studies programme.
Welcome!... three years is not a long time, before you know it, it will be over, so make the most of your time here…
These words from the LLC School Representative Khair Yacob recently struck me; a clarion call to a fully engaged and enjoyable student experience. I realise that due to constraints and circumstances that are perhaps beyond some students’ control, ‘extracurricular’ activities and experiences can be difficult to fit in. However, I would suggest that they...

Moving on…

Wednesday, 19 October 2016

The following is a guest post by Fi McClelland, a mature student who was one of the first cohort to graduate from our Professional Studies degree following its introduction in September 2013. The day of the graduation in July 2016 made me realise just how far I had progressed throughout my academic career, and I felt a real sense of personal triumph and accomplishment. An opportunity taken

Thursday, 29 September 2016

The following is a guest post by Joel Davison, a mature student who has just started his second year studying full-time on our BA Professional Studies programme. The Lifelong Learning Centre Opportunities Fund greatly helped me develop my skills over the summer. I applied to the fund for support with accommodation, which allowed me to remain in Leeds so that I could continue volunteering at The Vine Child Contact Centre. The Vine provides support for separated families where the non-resident parent is able to come and see their child or children in a safe, calm environment. Over the summer...

University of the Year

Friday, 23 September 2016

As of today we have become the Lifelong Learning Centre at the University of the Year and rightly proud of this recognition of what Leeds stands for and has achieved! It is not always the case that lifelong learning is aligned with the core values and mission of universities – in too many places it can feel a marginal activity or one that is somehow marching to the beat of a different drum from that of the rest of the institution. But this is emphatically not so at Leeds. The values that underpin lifelong learning are exactly the values...
