On Monday 4th March, a group of our full-time Business Studies students took part in a session run by Jon Hodgson, Director of Spinnaker 198 Ltd. Jon gave an informative and entertaining presentation which looked at the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs and also how to prepare an effective business plan. Jon was able to draw on his own experiences of setting up his own business and the students were provided with real life examples of the trials and tribulations of “going it alone”. The session was planned to enable our students to get a feel for what it takes to set up a business and also to enable them to apply some of this knowledge within a module called Innovation and Enterprise.
Next Monday (18th March), along with colleagues from the Business Management team, I will be visiting the Leeds office of British Gas plc. The visit builds on our previous training programmes run for British Gas and has been arranged to provide staff at British Gas with the opportunity to find out more about part-time Business Management study at the University of Leeds. The day will involve a series of interactive micro teaching sessions covering areas such as Management, Marketing and Leadership. We will be sure to post a blog to let you know how we get on!
