BA Classical Civilisation
What will I study?
During your Classical Civilisation degree you will explore the classical world in scholarly detail through both core study and specialised modules. You do not have to study Classical Greek or Latin, although you may take a language at beginners level if you wish. Programmes involving Classical Greek and/or Latin are also available.
Modules at level 1 introduce you to various aspects of Greek and Roman history, society and literature, as well as giving you the opportunity to choose a beginners level ancient language module or study wider aspects such as ancient philosophy or classical archaeology. At level 2 you will take modules in Homer’s Iliad and Virgil’s Aeneid – the two most influential works of literature from the classical period – as well as a module that looks in more detail at Classics as an intellectual discipline. Level 3 involves completion of a dissertation and a choice of modules from a range of specialist subjects on the ancient world which develop your knowledge and transferable skills further.
For more details on the modules that you will study as part of this course please see the entry in the programme catalogue.
