You’re never too old to learn

Wednesday, 07 August 2019

This is a guest post from Katie Perry, a mature student who graduated from Leeds this summer with a Foundation Degree in Child and Family Studies and will be going on to study for a BA in Child and Family Studies from September 2019.  I had wanted to return to education for a long time, I just lacked the confidence. I struggled at secondary school and left with some GCSEs but only one ‘good’ pass (a grade C). I then enrolled on an apprenticeship which entailed me working in a nursery for four days each week and spending...

Have no fear, Clearing’s here

Wednesday, 12 August 2015

As results day fast approaches (this Thursday!) we are revving up at the Lifelong Learning Centre and getting prepared to answer your calls and process Clearing applications. Of course, this day is not about us. If you’re getting your results this Thursday, and/or you’re applying to start at university this September, this day is very much about you. Usually there’s a good mix of excitement, elation and panic in the air. For many students, this is the day you find out whether you’ve got into the university and the course of your choice. You finally find out if...

Keep calm; there’s always a Plan B

Friday, 21 November 2014

Whether you’re a student or you’re a staff member, the beginning of the academic year always seems to fly by. I can’t believe Christmas is only five weeks away! Not that I’m counting down or anything. The past few months have been a very busy time for me, I’ve been out and about in the Yorkshire and Humber area visiting different Further Education (FE) colleges and meeting hundreds of students who are thinking about coming to university. As the Lifelong Learning Centre’s External Liaison Officer, a large part of my role is to promote communication with FE...
