The University of Leeds is holding our next open day this Saturday (14th September). As part of the planned Open Day events, the Lifelong Learning Centre is hosting sessions throughout the day for people interested in exploring Foundation Years, studying Part-time and studying at Higher Education as a mature student. Many people find the step from learning at college or returning to education to taking on a university degree programme a daunting prospect. Getting as much information about a University and the courses they offer is very important for any prospective student. This is where Open Days can be invaluable.

Open Days give people the opportunity to come on campus, speak to tutors, students, and staff and get a feel for the course and the University. I would advise anyone interested in university study to go to as many Open Days as possible, this stops them being intimidating and also allows you to compare experiences. People need to feel comfortable in order to succeed on programmes and here at the Lifelong Learning Centre we want to ensure that people are getting the best opportunity to flourish at Higher Education. The sessions are designed to answer important questions which will ensure students to thrive on their learning journey. The day will involve taster sessions on particular courses, such as Foundation Years in Business, Interdisciplinary Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences and Arts and Humanities and our new degree programme Contemporary and Professional Studies. Lifelong Learning Centre staff are also available to offer advice on financing your studies and the life/study balance.

As full-time students begin the task of filling in their UCAS application process the Open Day will also provide invaluable insights into writing personal statements and using all your five choices. I look forward to speaking to prospective students over the coming days and seeing where their paths may lead.

If you cannot make the 14th September, we are holding another Open Day on the 12th October. To register for either days please go to
