This post was written by Janet Fawdington, who has taken part in our Spring into Summer programme for the last two years.

I never made it to university when I was younger, I never took any ‘A’ levels either. But, I made it to the Lifelong Learning Centre’s Spring into Summer courses at the University of Leeds – and I was so glad I did. All the qualifications required are an interest in the subject and a willingness to learn.

My interest is Creative Writing which I never got round to doing much of until my children were practically grown up. At the University I found myself in classes of like-minded, interesting people. The tutors were without exception friendly, helpful, and inspiring.

I enjoyed the courses so much I will be returning this year for the third time. The six-week courses are similar to University modules without the stress of passing exams or having to produce coursework. There is a small amount of homework, but no pressure if life gets in the way of it. The classes are based in a bright, spacious and comfortable building and the Lifelong Learning Centre staff are as welcoming as the tutors.

I would recommend the Spring into Summer courses to anyone who never got round to university before, and even those who did.
