Anita Collins

As Programme Manager for our Learning and Teaching programmes I lead on programme development, teaching and learning quality assurance and enhancement, student support and recruitment of students to the part-time Learning and Teaching Foundation and BA top up degrees, including the Learning and Teaching Foundation (SEND) and BA top up (SEND) pathways.

I also deliver on the programmes, teaching modules on Theories of Learning, Developing Teaching Skills, Playful Learning, Inclusion and SEND and Autism and I also lead a Work-Based Learning module for our SEND pathway students.

My background is in English Language, Literacy and Literature teaching, as well as SEND teaching and support and Teacher Education; I worked in the Further Education sector for 20 years as a Lecturer in English, an Advanced Practitioner and a Teacher Trainer.

My main areas of interest are SEND research and practice, particularly in relation to Autistic Spectrum Condition, and in developing appropriate teaching and support strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners, including EAL. I have carried out doctoral-level research into young men’s dispositions towards and perceptions of writing.
