Gary Walker

My role as Teaching Fellow within the Child and Family Studies team is to provide teaching and student support across the Foundation Degree and the BA. My major areas of interest are:

  1. Looked After children
  2. Multi-agency working
  3. Safeguarding children
  4. Children’s rights
  5. Child development
  6. Research methods

I have 20 years’ experience of working with and for children and young people in various roles, most notably as a social worker, education child protection co-ordinator and education co-ordinator for Looked After children. My doctoral research focused on better understanding the reasons behind the lower educational outcomes of Looked After children. My publications include the sole-authored book Working Together for Children (2018) and an edited volume (with Phil Jones), Children’s Rights in Practice (2011).
